Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Scotch type gas fired boiler?

+

A Scotch type boiler is a fire-tube design where hot combustion gases pass through tubes surrounded by water. This configuration provides excellent heat transfer efficiency, compact construction, and high steam output relative to the boiler's footprint — making it one of the most widely used industrial boiler designs.

What fuel types are supported?

+

Our Scotch type boilers are designed to operate on natural gas as the primary fuel source. Dual-fuel configurations and alternative fuel options may be available depending on your specific application requirements. Contact us to discuss your fuel supply needs.

What industries commonly use gas fired boilers?

+

Gas fired boilers are used across manufacturing, food and beverage processing, textile and commercial laundry, chemical processing, agriculture, hospital and healthcare facilities, and commercial building heating. Any application requiring high-volume, reliable steam production benefits from gas fired boiler systems.

How efficient are Scotch type boilers?

+

Scotch type fire-tube boilers are known for high thermal efficiency due to their large heat transfer surface area. The multi-pass design maximizes the extraction of heat from combustion gases before they exit the flue, resulting in efficient fuel utilization and lower operating costs.

What maintenance do gas fired boilers require?

+

Regular maintenance includes water treatment monitoring, burner inspection and tuning, safety valve testing, flue gas analysis, and periodic inspection of tubes and internal surfaces. Our Scotch type design provides easy access to internal components through removable covers, simplifying routine maintenance procedures.

Can General Boiler customize gas fired boiler specifications?

+

Yes. We offer custom-engineered gas fired boiler solutions designed to meet your specific capacity, pressure, and application requirements. Our engineering team works with you from initial specification through manufacturing and delivery, all under ASME Codes & Standards.
